I think Ron lived out in the North Creek area somewhere. He was a big, strong, quiet spoken kid in school. He played in the line on our football team and no doubt was a formidable presence to whoever tried to block him.

Sadly, not long after high school he was involved in a one car roll-over accident and broke his neck, paralyzing himself from the neck down, if I remember correctly.

I lost track of him for several years, then while driving in Seattle one day I drove by a sign for an insurance agent named Ron Pihlman. I couldn't believe it so I had to turn around and go in to see if it was our Ron. Sure enough, there he was in a fancy power wheel-chair with all kinds of gizmos on it, running his own insurance agency with only the help of a secretary. We talked a bit and he told me he'd gotten married, that he loved his work, and that things worked out just fine for him.

How's that for Bothell spirit? I say, Two Bits, Four Bits, Six Bits, A Dollar, all for Ron stand up and holler! We may never see him again, at least in this life, but he made each of us better people just by knowing him. John E. Irby
